If women gets united, they will build a great state: Nidhi Semwal from Tehri.
"The place where I belong to is the place where simplicity is the charm of the people. The heavenly pleasure which I feel here can be felt no where. I have always been attached to the roots of my culture. I feel that positive roots are engraved in our personality and I thank my place and culture for that". Are these words of Nidhi not enough to make you excited to explore this place called Tehri?
Nidhi hails from Tehri, and is presently pursuing her graduation from Panjab University. On asking her as what exactly is the condition and attitudes of women in hills, she tells us in detail, "The Pahadi women socialize their small children, teaching them the Garhwali language and traditions, including agricultural practices. In Pahadi communities, women traditionally have had the major responsibility for agricultural work and looking after their cattle. A pahadi is truly a strong one you will ever find. They take animals to the pasture, carry water from the village ‘dhara' or get wood for the cooking fire. This very much depicts life of a typical pahadi. They are hardworking , have a never dying attitude and among all atrocities are happy. I too hail from a small village in Tehri Garhwal and I have witnessed the hardships of people out their.Women continuously working in fields without bothering about their own health. They become busy in their small world of simplicity."
We as a women community feel, if every girl from Uttarakhand have similar approach towards her native place, one alone can bring revolution to save the culture and uplift women, which is also need of the hour. As woman we play a major role in protecting our culture. After getting good quality education we must not leave behind our roots, rather should pass on the same values to our future generation. "An empowered women stand on their own.Women empowerment will reduce poverty, domestic violence and corruption problems in our hilly areas. Our state has a lot of class differences like the Brahmans, Thakurs and Shudras that becomes a hurdle in the growth. This we need to stop and equality must prevail. If women of different class, race and colour come together they will identify their atrocities as one. The multitaskers and the pioneers of the world : the women folk comes together and gets united they will build a great state ; a state where there are no more victims and sufferers." These words speak volumes.
With someone as clear head and focused as Nidhi, we surely have faith to spread this vision of change, empowerment and preservation across Uttarakhand. To sum up we would like to share a quote" Arise away and stop not until the goal is reached" We have a long way to go, but we will get there someday.
